Passion vs Profession

Passion and profession tend to change the livelihood of a person. Both in terms of money and joyous life.

While both refer to an act that tends to take the majority of a person’s time in his lifetime, there is a remarkable difference between the two tasks and how their ultimate result is achieved.

Difference between passion and profession can be defined as:

1. Passion denotes emotion while profession usually refers to a person’s occupation.
2. Passion is free of monetary terms while the profession is mostly weighed in terms of finances.

What is Passion?

Passion as per the English language is a noun; which refers to high levels of emotions. In some specific religious wordings, this also means grief.

Passion may refer to an outburst of extreme emotions- both negative and positive. Be it love, desire, ecstasy, sorrow, or angst. 

It is the emotion which urges a person to move forward without worrying about the consequences. It concurrently motivates and excites a person to step ahead.

What is Profession?

A profession is a name given to an individual who has acquired knowledge and skills in a specific area of expertise.

A person adhering to a profession is called a professional. While professionalism is the name given to strict compliance of the ethical and other statutory requirements of the profession.

To gain the title of being a part of a profession. An individual has to gain formal education along with other related training.

Differences Between Passion and Profession

• 1.) Passion is any activity that tends to provide a sense of excitement and immense joy, while the profession is a duty which helps in fulfilling the materialistic necessities of life.
• 2.) Passion may not always bring in monetary relief while the profession brings in finances.
• 3.) While passion is an emotion with no physical existence, the profession is something which can be viewed when a particular person is on a duty-a doctor, carpenter or painter can be seen as professionals operating in a profession.
• 4.) A passion has no legal boundaries or codes to adhere to, usually, it is an individual sense of aesthetics and joy. While a profession has codes and limits of performance and rules which are to be followed.
• 5.) To be a part of a profession, proper education and experience are required while passion can be self-taught, or at times is a natural flair.
